Say No to Dry Skin this Christmas and New Year

This year has been very good for our skin as because of lockdown our skin was protected from harmful UV rays and pollutants. And, some of us used this time to pamper ourselves. And now, The Winter is Here. As the days are getting colder, our skin starts getting dry and we need to take extra care to maintain that hydrating glow on our skin.

Why Does Our Skin Get Dry During Winter?

Our skin attracts moisture from the environment and keeps itself hydrated. So, when winter comes, our skin fails to maintain its hydration and makes it dry due to low humidity levels. And, during winter months, we need to take extra care not to take a long hot bath and overuse the harsh soaps as it might result in eradication of skin’s protective barrier as well as essential oils.

So, let’s see some winter care tips to combat the dry skin and retain skin’s natural moisture.

1 During this low humidity season, keep yourself hydrated throughout the day.

2 Sipping in a warm cup of tea with ginger and lemon will also keep you hydrated, healthy and cosy at the same time. It’s a win-win situation!

3 Switch to a cream-based cleanser to take off the day’s dirt and makeup while keeping the moisture intake.

4 Even if you have dry, itchy skin during the winter season, using a mild exfoliator will not only get rid of the dry, dead cells but will also help regenerate new ones. It will be best if you prefer exfoliating ingredients from your kitchen instead of the marketed products.

5 Avoid those long tempting hot water shower, as it will strip away those necessary oils from your body, resulting in dry flaky skin. Take 5-10 mins hot water bath and don’t forget the next step.

6 Apply moisturizer or lotion immediately after washing to lock in as much moisture as possible. Using coconut oil is also very beneficial. My grandparents still use coconut oil to keep their skin moisturised and soft.

In case of acne or breakouts, prefer products with ceramides, hyaluronic acid, hydration serums, and glycerin to maintain the skin’s moisture.

7 Usually, we use sunscreen only during summertime. But sunscreens are equally important during winter to shield from those harmful UVs. Choose a sunscreen that has titanium dioxide or zinc oxide.

8 And don’t forget your lips. Applying a moisturizing balm (such as petroleum jelly or another ointment) can help heal dry, cracked lips and keep them from getting chapped,

Follow these simple routine to maintain the skin moisture and keep it hydrated throughout this holiday season. Preferably in the morning and before going to sleep. Don’t forget to keep yourself hydrated, eat right and wear warm comfortable clothes.

Stay Warm and Hydrated.
