Own Your Morning, Elevate Your Life – The 5 AM Club

I have taken a long time to complete this book as I wanted to grasp the learnings the book offers as much as possible. And, even longer to give you a perfect book review. Without a doubt, this comes in my top favourite books I have read till now. The 5 AM Club has made me follow a routine, it made me reflect and plan my day with a peaceful mind during the quietest hour of the day.

I’ve never been one to re-read books, but this year, I’ve found a handful that I wouldn’t mind reading twice. Let’s start and see what this book has in store for all of you.

What I like the most in this book will be:

  • The way the characters are described. I have noticed in the two books which I have read, Robin Sharma describes all the characters in a way which makes you feel connected to them.
  • All the learning evolves around an amusing story of two strangers meeting an eccentric tycoon at the conference. And how meeting this billionaire and learning from him has brought changes in their life.
  • The step to step guide to elevate life is the main and very important part of this book. All the steps are doable with just a little self-motivation.
  • What I love in this book is it motivates you to wake up at 5 am and exactly tells you what all steps to follow to own our mornings.
  • Also, the characters have visited many beautiful places to learn something new. This made me want to visit those places as well. I have already added all the places in my “To Visit” list (wink*).

What I learnt from The 5 AM Club:

  • When we get up at five in the morning, the stillness, solitude, and silence trigger our brain to change the waves from beta to alpha to theta.
  • We need to take care of “The Four Interior Empires”Mindset (psychological aspect), Heartset (emotional intelligence), Healthset (physical fitness) and Soulset (spirituality).
  • It takes almost 66 days for a habit to get automatic. These 66 days are divided into three-phase. In the first 22 days, we destroy our old habit, followed by implementing and installing the new habit in the next 22 days. In the last phase, our new habit starts to become more automatic.
  • The most important thing in this book – The 20/20/20 rule. This is the point where the author tells exactly what to do in the quietest hour of our daybreak.
Pocket 1(5:00 AM to 5:20 AM): Move– Do intense exercise and keep hydrating yourselves.
Pocket 2 (5:20 AM to 5:40 AM): Reflect– Ruminate and reflect on your life. Meditate or write a journal or plan your day.
Pocket 3 (5:40 AM to 6:00 AM): Grow– Review your goals. Increase your knowledge by listening to podcasts or reading a book.
  • The author has also shared with us the ultimate timetable to follow from waking up to going back to sleep. Yes, different people will have their own timetable. But, the timetable mentioned in the book can be considered as a guideline to improve the current lifestyle.

Some Inspiring Quotes from the book:

  • The place where your greatest discomfort lies is also the spot where your largest opportunity lives.
  • All change is hard at first, messy in the middle and gorgeous at the end.
  • An addiction to distraction is the death of your creative production.
  • Small daily achievements, when done consistently over time, definitely do lead to stunning results.
  • Your thoughts, your feelings, your words, and your deeds are the four resource that will allow you to materialize miracles in the world.

I hope you are now willing to read The 5 AM Club and learn ways to own the morning and elevate your life.

So, I have heard that its an excellent book and everyone should try it. One fine Sunday evening, I was talking to one of my friends and she told me to read this book. After talking to her, I didn’t immediately buy the book. I started getting up at 6 am and it did feel good. So then, prior to ordering the paperback copy, I read the book’s review. I knew it had the potential to be life-changing. And plus, reading such highly motivating books gets tougher when you read on electronic devices, be it kindle or your phone.

I have read three motivational books till now (The Monk who Sold His Ferrari and 80% mindset 20% skills). And I must say, one thing is common in all the book, by the time you come to end, you feel so encouraged and motivated. There are some parts where you may get bored, but if you keep reading you will end up learning a lot.

I hope you all will give this book a try and lead a great life.
