After the COVID pandemic, we have adapted ourselves to a new form of life where we are extra cautious regarding our health and immunity. We have been actively listening to the precautionary measures to stay updated about our health and be protective. And with masks and sanitiser, we are finally here in the season of raincoats and umbrellas.

We cannot hold back from eating chaat, golgappa and other street foods on rainy days. But, with all these good things in the monsoon season, it also comes with a series of infections, flu and diseases.

Performing moderate exercises can also boost your immune system. Regular exercise improves your cardiovascular function, relieves muscular pain, resulting in stronger bones and improved balance. Regular exercise is good physically and makes us feel happy mentally,  as it releases endorphins hormones, which makes you feel light.

3) Smart Food Choices!

  • Switch to olive oil, a healthier alternative to regular oil, for cooking your favourite dishes. It has monosaturated fatty acids which reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Healthy fats also boost your immune response as well as act as an anti-inflammatory.
  • Consume more off of plant-based foods since they are rich in nutrients, vitamins, fibres and minerals. You can consume leafy vegetables such as spinach and broccoli to help you maintain your immune system.
  • Having Mushrooms in your meal is considered a top choice for boosting your immunity. It has a high proportion of selenium, riboflavin, and niacin, and also contains vitamin D. Mushroom in your meal can prevent you from the risk of infections.

  • Along with mushrooms, many vegetables are rich in vitamin C, K, fibre and antioxidants. And are considered good in monsoon to protect your immunity. Some immunity-boosting vegetables are:
    • Green peppercorn contains piperine, Vitamin C, K, antioxidants by deactivating free radicals. It also consists of antimicrobial properties.
    • Various guards like bottle guard, snake guard and ridge guard can be consumed. They are high in antioxidants which reduce the radical damage in the body’s cells. That is one of the reasons due to which it is used as a kidney detoxifier.
    • Ginger and garlic eliminate congestion and has antiviral properties. It can be used to treat chills and fever.
    • Consumption of beetroot helps to build immunity and improve haemoglobin levels.
    • Lady’s finger is also an immunity-boosting vegetable. It is rich in fibre, reduces bad cholesterol and is a rich source of Vitamin C.
  • Along with consuming a well-balanced meal rich in protein to strengthen your immunity. You should also take care of having a low salt diet. A low salt diet is always better as it prevents water retention and high blood pressure.
  • Being Indian, we all love adding different spices to our food. And guess what, spices like turmeric, cloves, pepper, cinnamon, fenugreek, ginger can boost your immunity. These spices help in better digestion, flushes out the sinus from the body and strengthens immunity. 
    Warm water with honey, ginger and black pepper can be a miraculous cure to avoid cold, cough and flu.
  • Fermented foods are rich in probiotics which helps in the effective functioning of the good bacteria in your gut. Thus, enabling your digestive system to run smoothly. Add a cup of yoghurt to your meal plan.

  • Peaches – consists of vitamin A, B, and carotene
  • Apples – consist of vitamins A, B1, B2 and C and minerals like phosphorus, iodine, calcium, and iron
  • Citrus Fruits – You can consider citrus fruits like orange, lemon in your diet to boost your immunity. They are a rich source of vitamin C and also have some antioxidant properties
