Simple DIY Exfoliating Scrub are here to save the day…

In my previous article, we discussed the benefits of including exfoliation in your skincare routine. However, there are many of us who might be reluctant to buy the exfoliating scrub. Apart from exfoliating scrubs being expensive, we are also afraid of whether it will suit their skin or not. But do not worry. In such cases, you just got to have a little fun with your kitchen ingredients.

Keep these following items ready and you are ready to flaunt your silky smooth skin:

  • A mixing bowl and a spoon
  • A carrier oil (coconut oil, almond oil, or olive oil)
  • If desired, your preferred essential oils
  • Sealed container if you want to store it for further use
  • Last but the most important your exfoliating kitchen ingredient
  • And, your favourite moisturiser, to apply after you’re done exfoliating

A very important tip to remember with homemade body scrubs is to get the consistency right. And, remember to gently massage the scrub onto your face or body so as to prevent any irritation. DIY exfoliating scrubs are comparatively safe to use as all the ingredients are natural and from your kitchen so it is likely to give you any skin problems.

Let’s see some interesting DIY body scrubs which are both easy to make and beneficial for your skin.

Lemon Scrub

Lemon Scrub
You Need:
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp salt
  • 1 tsp rosewater (regular water)

Mix the ingredients and gently massage the scrub in a circular motion. Rinse it off with warm water after 2-3 minutes of massaging. Lemon scrub is beneficial as it has antiseptic properties as well as reduces the excess sebum. Don’t forget to apply your favourite toner or moisturiser and sunscreen afterwards to shield your skin from UV damage.

Aloe Vera Scrub

Aloe Vera Scrub
You Need:
  • 1 tablespoon of aloe vera gel
  • 1/4 cup of brown sugar

Mix the ingredients for gentle skin exfoliation. Aloe scrub calms your skin down after a long day in the sun. This scrub is best to ease the inflammation during the hot summer days while removing the dead skin cell layer. Aloe vera scrub will also help in lightening the scars spots and make your skin soft.

Sugar Scrub

Sugar Scrub
You Need:

Combine the sugar and coconut oil and gently rub it on your face. Use fine white sugar for face and brown sugar for your body for better exfoliation. This sugar scrub will help get rid of the tan lines, giving your skin an even tone. You can also use sugar scrub to exfoliate your lips. Exfoliating lips will remove the chapped layer and make your lips softer and shinier.

Oats Scrub

Oats Scrub

You Need:

Grind 2/3 cup of oats (Alternate method-use oat flour if you have), add honey and yoghurt to it. Slather the oat scrub onto your face. This scrub will not only soothe your skin but also fight the bacterias and the acne breakouts.

Coffee Scrub

Coffee Scrub
You Need:
  • 1/2 cup grounded coffee

This scrub will make you feel fresh and leaves you with a nice coffee aroma.

Also, helps in reducing the appearance of ageing signs.

exfoliate, moisturise

So, now you have a variety of DIY exfoliating scrubs to choose from. Keep in mind your skin types and targeted skin issues while picking your favourite DIY. I will recommend sugar or salt or baking soda for oily skin types, oats for dry skin. While sugar or ground coffee works as a great exfoliate for combination skin.

My personal favourite is coffee scrub and I use it once in a week. For the face, I stick to a gentle exfoliator like lemon scrub and use it 3-4 times a week.
